Expected home shortly on furlough from the Front, Crpl Ernest Shardlow, the adopted son of Mrs Scothern , of Station Road, Morton, was killed in action on September 19th. Aged 19, he was wounded a short time previously . Joining the Army in 1914 , he served through the Dardanelles campaign , and was also in Egypt prior to going to France.
