Children at Morton Primary School helping with Police Speed Checks

Posted on December 04 2012

Youngsters at Morton Primary School have been out with their local policing team to carry out speed checks and speak to motorists about safe driving.

Any drivers found breaking the limits on Main Road in Morton, where the school is located, were stopped and given the option of speaking to the youngsters about their speed.

Youngsters at Morton Primary School also handed motorists a leaflet they had designed to raise awareness of the dangers of speeding.

PC Phil Parkin of the North Wingfield, Pilsley, Stonebroom and Shirland Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “Teachers, parents and pupils have recently told us they are concerned about speeding motorists passing the school and putting safety at risk.

“By carrying out this initiative we really hope to raise awareness of the issue and encourage motorists to slow down.”
